The Barter Group was founded in the early eighties at a time that the country been through an extended recession, and retailers were having a tough time of it. Problems existed in the ability or willingness of the banking industry to assist small business or startup entrepreneurs with or without a proven track record. If you fall into this category you probably feel the restraint even today. Seems that history indeed repeats it's self. Barter as a form of business has increased the buying and selling of power of thousands of businesses leveling the playing field between small business and the big boys. Barter accounts for the survival of companies large and small during the hard times.
Throughout history the exchange of goods or services has been the salvation of economies. Barter has always been on the sidelines to provide liquidity for the small business and awaiting rebirth at the time of it's need.
Organized BARTER offered a partial solution by creating an accounting system that provided a contemporary forum for the transfer of goods and services, without cash. This was accomplished by setting up a line of credit secured by each of the business owners pledges to allocate product or services into a system that was regulated through a central clearing house similar in nature to a bank or credit card system. Barter conpanies are recognized by law as third party book keepers and as such subject to the same requirements as Banks.
Businesses owners who were willing to work together and exchange the "things" they had for the "things" they needed were the nucleus that provided the reserves for the resurgence of barter.
The Barter Group was launched when a member conceived a merger to unify an efficient, reciprocal barter association. The Barter Group catalyzed fragmented exchanges including :Barter Systems, Exchange Enterprize,BX, Intraworld and smaller area exchanges with varying trade credits, and limited scope, into a unified organization under one unit of trade (analogous to EURO dollars).
The Barter Group has remained reciprocal with most national exchanges and as such may accept the credits of most nationally recognized barter organizations with advance notice.
